Eligible employees at SpecialCare are provided a range of benefits. Benefit eligibility is dependent upon a variety of factors, including employee classification and length of service.
Benefits available to eligible employees include:

Vacation Benefits

Because we recognize the importance of vacation time in providing the opportunity for rest, recreation, and personal activities, SpecialCare grants annual, paid vacations to its full-time regular employees as follows:

  • After completion of 1 year of eligible service, the employee is entitled to 5 vacation days annually.
  • After completion of 2 years of eligible service, the employee is entitled to 10 vacation days annually.
  • After completion of 6 years of eligible service, the employee is entitled to 15 vacation days annually.


Thereafter, the employee earns 15 days per year. Full-time regular employees earn vacation days in the amounts set forth above after completion of an eligible year of service. The accrual of vacation time may be suspended for any significant leave of absence, except a military leave of absence. A military leave of absence will have no effect on the accrual of vacation time.


SpecialCare provides services to our clients on recognized holidays. Therefore, not all employees will be able to take time off on the actual day of a holiday. Scheduling for holidays will be done by the employee’s supervisor, with preference given to full-time regular employees who desire the day off. SpecialCare will grant paid holiday time off to all full-time and part- time regular employees for the holidays listed below, when they fall on regularly scheduled workdays:

  • New Year’s Day (January 1)
  • Dr. Martin Luther King Day (third Monday in January)
  • Memorial Day (last Monday in May)
  • Independence Day (July 4)
  • Labor Day (first Monday in September)
  • Thanksgiving (fourth Thursday in November)
  • Day after Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Day (December 25)


Discretionary Days

SpecialCare provides paid discretionary days on a calendar year basis to full-time regular employees, for periods of temporary absence due to illness, injury, personal business, or to secure necessary treatment for a disability. Discretionary days may be used for the illness or injury of the employee or that of a family member who resides in the employee’s household. Discretionary days are not additional vacation days, and generally are not to be used in conjunction with vacation days. Paid discretionary days can be used in minimum increments of ½ day.

All employees who are employed on January 1 will accrue six discretionary days on January 1 of each year. New employees hired after December 31 of any year will accrue ½ discretionary day each month for the balance of the calendar year in which they begin employment at SpecialCare. Thereafter, such employees will accrue six discretionary days on January 1 of each year. Discretionary days that are not used in the calendar year in which they accrue may not be carried over into the following year.
